Situated 7 miles from the junction of the Tyndrum - Glencoe road and 1 km beyond Dalness (The Big House")

Access

There is a key safe by the main (green) entrance door which contains two keys. One opens the mortise lock, and the other opens the padlock securing this door. There is also a chain secured by a combination padlock across the entrance drive. The combinations for the key safe and the drive chain padlocks will be supplied 1-2 weeks prior to booking date. Please ensure both external doors are locked, keys replaced in safe, and the chain secured across the drive when you leave.

Accommodation

Accommodation consists of a common room and kitchen downstairs and a sleeping area with matresses upstairs. Sleeping bags and pillows are required. A new porch/storage area has recently been added outside the kitchen which also acts as a firewood store. No more than 13 people can be safely accommodated overnight. There is an environmentally-friendly "Clivus" composting toilet accessed by an outstair on the western edge of the cottage.

Disabled People

Please note that the Hut may not be suitable for persons with certain disabilities. Check with the custodian before booking.

Camping

Camping is permitted on the grass in front of and to the right (west) of the cottage. Fires are not permitted anywhere outside.

Facilities

The cottage has electricity but no running water. On entry the power will be off and requires to be switched on as you enter. There is a £1 coin meter. Water has to be collected from the burn some 80m west of the cottage. The kitchen equipment includes an electric cooker, fridge, microwave oven, electric kettle and water heater. Cooking utensils, crockery, glasses, cutlery, food storage boxes and essential spares are provided.

Refuse Disposal

Hut users should take all their garbage and spare food with them when they leave.

Heating & Drying

The common room has a wood burning stove. There is often some firewood at the hut which visitors may use for a suggested donation of £3/night, but this cannot be guaranteed.  Please don't waste it as it takes time to cut, split and dry out. Cutting of standing timber is not permitted. Please do not use coal in the stove, it's not designed for it. The mail entrance porch has a dehumidifier and a small fan heater and can act as a drying room.

Fire Prevention and Safety

A smoke detector and a heat detector are fitted. Emergency Lighting is fitted above the stair. Fire Extinguishers are provided. Before retiring for the night the wood burning stove should be checked and shut down. The fire door to the common room should be kept shut at night. Smoking is not permitted. Fire Awareness procedures should be observed and fire risks minimised at all times.
